
Småland is located in the southern part of Sweden and it borders the provinces of Blekinge and Skåne in the south, Halland in the west, Västergötland in the north-west and Östergötland in the north.
The eastern part of Småland borders the Baltic Sea and Sweden's second largest island Öland is located there as well. The Öland Bridge between Kalmar (Småland) and Färjestaden (Öland) connects the island with the mainland.

The name Småland is a combination of the Swedish words "små" and "land" literally meaning small lands.
This stems from the many small lands that were independent in the past and have then been combined into one large land that is now called Småland.
